Fun Bilingual Valentine's Day Activity for Kids in Chinese and English – Compliment Jar
Let’s celebrate Valentine’s Day in your Chinese classroom by spreading kindness! This Compliment Jar is a simple yet meaningful activity for your students to practice giving and receiving positive words in both Chinese and English. It’s a wonderful way to build friendships, boost confidence, and celebrate the season of love!
Materials You Need to Make a Compliment Jar:
Bilingual printable heart-shaped compliment templates (in Chinese and English)
Friendship Jar Template (______________ 的友情糖果罐)
Pencils, Markers, Scissors, and Glue
***Optional: Colored Paper Bags
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Cut out the hearts – Students will learn what compliments are and why it’s important to give compliments to each other. All the compliments on the hearts are in English and Chinese. The hearts feature compliments in both English and Chinese such as “You’re talented 你很有才华” “You’re caring 你会关心别人”.
2. Write their own compliments – Encourage kids to think about their classmates' strengths and write kind words in Chinese and English.
3. Fill the jar – Each student glues compliments onto a friend’s 友情糖果罐 friendship jar template, creating a heartwarming collection of positive messages!
4. Share the love! – Students can attach their Friendship Jar filled with thoughtful compliments to a colorful paper bag. If you have Valentine’s Day gifts for them—or if students are exchanging treats—they can place them inside the bag to take home. It’ll be a sweet reminder of the kind words shared in class!
This Valentine's Day activity is a wonderful way to promote kindness, encourage bilingual learning, and create a positive classroom environment.
