Learn Christmas Vocabulary with Picture Cards

Before kids start decorating their sweaters, it’s a great time to learn some Christmas words in Chinese!

You can use our picture flashcards to introduce fun vocabulary like:

圣诞老人 (shèng dàn lǎo rén) - Santa
姜饼人 (jiāng bǐng rén) - Gingerbread man
圣诞树 (shèng dàn shù) - Christmas tree
礼物 (lǐ wù) - Gift
小精灵 (xiǎo jīng líng) - Elf

We provide three versions: Simplified Chinese with pinyin 简体拼音, Traditional Chinese with pinyin 繁體拼音, and Traditional Chinese with zhuyin 繁體注音.

During the Craft: Let the Creativity Begin!

Once your students are familiar with the Christmas vocabulary and have all their materials ready, it’s time to designing their sweaters! Encourage kids to choose their favorite colors, patterns, and holiday symbols to make each sweater unique.

This is a great moment for students to use the new vocabulary naturally as they chat with classmates, describe what they’re adding, or ask for materials in Chinese.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Pencils

  • Coloring tools (colored pencils, markers, crayons, paint, etc.)

  • Printable sweater template (free download at the end!)

  • Fun craft decorations like pom poms, feathers, glitter glue, cotton balls, stickers, and pipe cleaners

  • Scissors

  • Twine/Fabric ribbon

Create a Festive Classroom Display

After each child designs their Christmas sweater, have them cut out the shape and use a twine to hang it up in the classroom. This turns your space into a festive winter wonderland full of bright colors and cheerful holiday designs!

You can even plan an “Ugly Sweater Day 圣诞毛衣日” where students wear their favorite holiday sweaters and show off their creations!
